- Born August 8, 1949
- Hometown: Athens, Ohio
- Alma Mater: Ohio University (BS, 1971 & MS, 1973)
- Started coaching in 1971, spending two years as an assistant at D-III Marietta College (OH) while earning his master’s degree
- Spent three years as an assistant at D-III Wittenberg, also serving as soccer coach for three seasons (11-20-1 overall record)
- Became the head basketball coach at Wittenberg in 1976, leading the Tigers to an NCAA Championship title in his first season
- Went to the D-III NCAA Tournament ten times in thirteen seasons, reaching the Final Four a total of four times
- Returned to alma mater Ohio in 1989 as the Bobcats head coach, a position he would hold for the next twelve seasons
- Won 204 games at Ohio, going to one NCAA Tournament and one NIT during his tenure
- Swept the MAC regular season and Tournament titles in 1994
- Was on Herb Sendek‘s staff at NC State for four seasons – three as associate head coach – in between head coaching jobs
- Finished his career with a 13-year run at Western Carolina, winning 193 and a share of two SoCon regular season titles
- Retired from his coaching in March 2018 at the age of 68
- Suffered a massive stroke and passed away several days later on May 4, 2018; survived by his wife, Mary
