  • Played at NC State for head coach Everett Case then spent two years as a student assistant under Press Maravich
  • Spent two years as the head coach at Cedar Key School in Cedar Key, Florida
  • Was a grad assistant on Jim Gudger’s staff at Western Carolina for a year before joining Dick Campbell’s staff at The Citadel
    • Stayed on the staff for five years, the last two under new Bulldogs’ head coach George Hill
    • Took over as head coach of The Citadel in 1974, leading the program for the next 11 seasons
  • Left for East Tennessee State in 1985, coaching the Buccaneers for five seasons and serving as the school’s athletic director for the last four years of that tenure
  • Was hired as the head basketball coach at his alma mater NC State in 1990, coaching the Wolfpack for six seasons
    • Only had one winning season during his time as head coach, going 78-98 overall
    • Stepped down as coach in 1996 to become the athletic director at the school, a position he had for four years
  • Returned to The Citadel in 2000 to be the athletic director for the next eight years until his retirement in 2008
  • Inducted into the ETSU Hall of Fame (2006), The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame (2012) and the SoCon Hall of Fame (2018)
  • Along with his wife, Barbara, has four children
