List of Premo-Porretta National Champions
List of Premo-Porretta National Champions
The Premo-Porretta Power Poll was founded by Patrick Premo, professor emeritus in accounting at St. Bonaventure, and Phil Porretta, a computer programmer, combining years of independent and collaborative research and analysis from the early years of college basketball. Their goal was to retroactively name a National Champion for every season before the NCAA Tournament began, as well as recognize the top teams from each season before formal Polls began in the sport.
The two men first published their results in 1995. In 2009, they published full season-ending rankings (ranging from a Top 15 from the earliest years to a Top 25 in the 1910s and beyond) for each season from 1895-96 through 1947-48 (the last season before the AP Poll began).
For the other major retroactive national champion organization, see: Helms Foundation National Champions
Below is a full list of retroactively-named National Champions, broken out in the pre- and post-NCAA Tournament sections.
