Coach Louis Orr has passed away at age 64
Georgetown assistant coach Louis Orr has passed away following a battle with cancer, his family announced on Thursday. Orr was 64 years old.
He was a dearly loved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will forever be missed! – The Orr Family
The former head coach at Siena, Seton Hall and Bowling Green, Orr had been working on Patrick Ewing‘s staff at Georgetown for the last five seasons and recently transitioned into the role of special assistant to the head coach.
He was 201-201 overall as a head coach with two NCAA Tournaments (both with Seton Hall) and two conference COY awards on his resume. A native of Cincinnati, Orr starred for Jim Boeheim at Syracuse and then spent eight years playing professionally in the NBA for the Pacers and Knicks. He was teammate of Ewing’s for three seasons in New York.
I’ve lost a great friend. Someone who has been in my life since I was 22 years old. We developed a friendship and a brotherhood. He was always someone I could talk to – we would talk about life, we would talk about basketball, we would talk about family. He will be truly missed and he will forever be part of this Hoya program. – Patrick Ewing
