  • Played at Stanford for four seasons under Hall of Fame head coach Mike Montgomery
    • Earned All-Pac-10 honors twice and was a Third-Team AP All-American as a senior in 2000
    • Drafted 29th overall in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers
  • Spent nine seasons in the NBA, three with the Lakers and six with the Minnesota Timberwolves
    • Won two NBA titles in LA and is remembered by fans for his goofy dance moves during victory parades
  • In 2009, Madsen took an assistant coaching job under Brad Jones with the Utah Flash of the NBA D-League
  • Returned to Stanford to earn his MBA and then spent the 2012-13 season as one of Johnny Dawkins’ assistants
  • In May 2013, Madsen was named head coach of the Lakers’ D-League affiliate, the Los Angeles D-Fenders
    • Before coaching any games, Madsen was promoted into a player development role with the Lakers
    • In 2014, Madsen became one of Byron Scott’s assistant coaches and was retained by Luke Walton in 2016
  • Hired in April 2019 to be the head coach at Utah Valley, a member of the WAC
    • In his second season, Madsen led the Wolverines to a share of the WAC title
    • Won 20 games in year three and 28 in year four, winning the outright WAC title in 2022-23 to earn a NIT bid
  • In March 2023, Madsen was hired to be the head coach at California, his old rival from his Stanford playing days
