  • Led Hayden High School in Topeka to back-to-back Class 4A Kansas state titles
  • Played point guard for four seasons with the Kansas Jayhawks under Hall of Fame head coach Larry Brown
    • Became first Kansas Jayhawks player to participate in four straight NCAA Tournaments
    • After graduation, spent five seasons as an assistant at KU – first under Brown and then under Roy Williams
  • After Kansas, Turgeon served as an assistant at Oregon for five seasons under head coach Jerry Green
  • After one year as an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers, Turgeon became head coach at Jacksonville State
    • Went 25-29 in two seasons at JSU, improving from 8 wins in year one to 17 in 1999-2000
  • Left Jacksonville to become the head coach at Wichita State in 2000, leading the Shockers to three straight NITs 2003-05 before reaching the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2006
    • Won 128 games in seven seasons at WSU, including three seasons of 21+ victories
  • Spent four years as the head coach at Texas A&M, winning 24+ games and reaching the NCAA Tournament each season
  • Became the head coach at Maryland in 2011, taking over the program when it was part of the ACC (moved to Big Ten in 2014)
    • Took the Terps to the NCAA Tournament five times in ten seasons, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2016
    • In 2020, Turgeon’s team won a share of the Big Ten title for the first time since joining the conference
    • Turgeon was given a contract extension through the 2025-26 season in April 2021
    • Later that year, Turgeon and Maryland announced that they would be parting ways; Turgeon was 226-116 overall
  • Along with his wife, Ann, has two sons and a daughter
