Marty Wilson fired at Pepperdine

Pepperdine head coach Marty Wilson will not have his contract renewed at the end of the season, ending a 7-year tenure coaching his alma mater. Wilson played for the Waves from 1984-89 and in his coaching career has spent 16 of 28 seasons on staff there.

Wilson led the Waves to back-to-back CBI appearances a few years ago – the first postseason appearances for the school in over a decade – but has regressed considerably in the last two seasons. This year’s squad sits at just 4-22 (1-13 WCC) and Wilson now has the awkward task of coaching the team for the rest of the season knowing that he won’t be back.

It will be interesting to see who Pepperdine goes after as Wilson’s replacement. Basketball-wise, it can be a tough gig, but one might be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful location to be a mid-major basketball coach than Malibu.
