  • Matt is the son of Bob McKillop, the long-time head coach at Davidson who won 634 games and 15 conference titles
  • Born in New York, where his father was the head coach at Long Island Lutheran HS (NY), McKillop grew up mostly in Davidson, NC as Bob became the head coach there in 1989
    • Matt played four seasons for his father at Davidson, starting 98 games and ranking among the program’s best three-point shooters
  • Started his coaching career at D-III Emory in Atlanta, spending the 2007-08 season as an assistant under Jason Zimmerman, another of his father’s proteges who had played and coached at Davidson
  • Joined the coaching staff at Davidson as an assistant in 2008, following the program’s NCAA Elite Eight run
    • Worked under Bob McKillop for fourteen seasons, including six as the associate head coach
    • During his time on the bench, the Wildcats won six conference titles and went to the NCAA Tournament five times
  • In June 2022, his father announced his retirement and Matt was named the new head coach at Davidson
