Michael Curry fired after four seasons at FAU

Florida Atlantic has parted ways with head basketball coach Michael Curry following four seasons with the program. The Owls finished 12-19 this year and had an overall 39-84 record during Curry’s tenure.

Curry came to FAU in 2014 from the NBA, taking on his first collegiate job of any type. Previously an assistant with the Detroit Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers, Curry also had a 39-43 record in one season as the Pistons’ head coach.

The Alabama-native and former Georgia Southern standout also had a long professional playing career, scoring 2,986 points over the course of ten seasons in the NBA.

“Michael is a wonderful person and is very well liked throughout the university and the community at large,” said new AD Brian White.

Some potential candidates for the Owls new head coach include Samford‘s Scott Padgett and Florida assistant Jordan Mincy. Though White may want to go with another big splash hire (ala Lane Kiffin on the football side), in which case he may look to the NBA ranks into guys like Miami Heat assistant Chris Quinn or recently fired Jason Kidd.
