- Alma Mater: Loyola Marymount University (BA, 1980)
- Played two seasons – one each for head coaches Dave Benaderet and Ron Jacobs – at LMU after starting at LA’s Pierce College
- Spent five years after graduation as an assistant at LMU under new head coach Ed Goorjian
- Was an assistant for four years under George Raveling, one at Iowa and three at USC
- Spent five years as the head coach at Division III Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, CA
- Went 80-55 during that time and led the Kingsmen to the D-III Tournament in each of his final three seasons
- Moved to Australia in 1994 to be the head coach of the Adelaide 36ers (NBL) for three seasons, going 51-27 overall
- In 1997, Dunlap became the head coach at Division II Metro State in Denver, CO
- Led the Roadrunners to the D-II NCAA Tournament in each of his nine years at the school
- Won two NCAA D-II National Titles (2000 and 2002) and was 248-50 overall during his tenure
- Spent two years assisting George Karl with the Denver Nuggets before returning to Division I college basketball
- Was an assistant under Russ Pennell at Arizona and Ernie Kent at Oregon, then two years under Steve Lavin at St. John’s
- Hired as the head coach of the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats for the 2012-13 season, going 21-61 and missing the playoffs
- Returned to his alma mater in March 2014 when he was hired to be the head coach of the LMU Lions
- After steadily increasing win totals in his first three seasons, Dunlap was extended through 2020-21 in August 2017
- Fired in March 2020 following an 11-21 season, his fourth sub-.500 season in six years at LMU
- Moved back to the pro game in 2020, joining Mike Budenholzer’s staff with the Milwaukee Bucks
- Spent three seasons working with the Bucks, winning the NBA Championship in his first season (2021)
- Hired in April 2024 to be the head coach at D-II Colorado Mesa, marking a return to the RMAC
