  • Alma Mater: Louisiana Tech University (BS, 1977)
  • The Louisiana-native is the son of former Northwestern State and NBA player John McConathy, who went on to become the superintendent of the Bossier Parish School Board
  • The younger McConathy starred at Louisiana Tech, earning Southland POY honors as a junior in 1976
    • Was inducted into the Louisiana Tech Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011
  • Began his coaching career in 1983 at Bossier Parish CC, a school that his father helped to establish
    • Coached there for sixteen years, passing on opportunities to move on in favor of raising his family in Bossier Parish
  • Made the jump to Division I in 1999, becoming the head coach at Northwestern State
    • Has led the Demons to the only three D-I NCAA Tournament appearances in program history
    • Awarded Southland COY in 2005 and 2006, becoming the only person to win both COY and POY honors in the conference
    • Announced his retirement in March 2022 after 23 seasons at the helm; went 330-377 overall
  • Along with his wife, Connie, has two sons, both of whom played at NSU
