Mike Neu fired as Ball State head football coach

Ball State announced on Saturday that Mike Neu has been let go as head football coach. The Cardinals are off this weekend but lost last weekend at Buffalo to drop to 3-7 (2-4 MAC) on the season with two games remaining.

“Coach Neu has poured his heart into the Ball State football program,” said AD Jeff Mitchell. “I commend him for his professionalism and the positive team culture he has constructed. His efforts have greatly impacted the lives of hundreds of young men. He has represented the Ball State brand with integrity and class, and I wish him well in future pursuits.”

Neu led the Cards to bowl games in both 2020 and 2021 but has finished under .500 in his other seven seasons at the helm. He leaves his alma mater with an overall record of 40-63 (25-43).

The team will be lead for the next two weeks by OL coach Colin Johnson, a former Ball State player himself who returned to Muncie in 2019 to join Neu’s staff. The team hosts Bowling Green this weekend before finishing the season at Ohio.
