- Graduated from Broad Ripple HS in Indianapolis then went on to play for the Hoosiers and legendary coach Bob Knight
- During his four years, Woodson went to two NCAA Sweet Sixteens, won the 1980 Big Ten title and the 1979 NIT title
- Drafted 12th overall in the 1980 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks; went on to play for eleven years in the NBA
- Played for the Knicks (1980-81), New Jersey Nets (1981), Kansas City/Sacramento Kings (1982-86), Los Angeles Clippers (1986-88), Houston Rockets (1988-90) and Cleveland Cavaliers (1991)
- Head coaches he played for include Red Holzman, Cotton Fitzsimmons, Phil Johnson, Don Chaney and Gene Shue
- Began his coaching career in 1996, spending much of the next 25 years working for various NBA franchises

- Woodson and staff were fired in April 2014; later that year he joined Doc Rivers’ staff with the Clippers and worked there for four seasons
- Resigned in 2018 then spent two seasons away before returning to the Knicks as one of Tom Thibodeau’s assistants in 2020
- In March 2021, Woodson was hired as the new head coach at his alma mater, Indiana, the first collegiate coaching role of his career
- Has won 63 games through three seasons and led the Hoosiers to two NCAA Tournaments
