MLB Fans often have the privilege to scream, shout, cheer, and throw in comments here and there when players are playing, but this time around, one fan stepped on the wrong toes and it deeply affected Ketel Marte. It was a normal baseball game, and one fan decided to make harmful verbal remarks to the player, which really affected him. I am now thinking, if the MLB has not, perhaps they should consider intense housekeeping rules in the stadium. Fans and supporters deserve freedom, but baseball players deserve respect from their fans as well, to keep it more ethical from both ends.
Fans and players alike should show respect to keep sports positive
Respect is the key element in all sports all over the world. Players should respect their fans and vice versa; that is how the atmosphere of positivity is kept. Fans, at times, think that these players are inhuman. You know, just like how fans cancel celebrities, actors, and so forth, lacking an understanding that despite their hierarchy in the industry, they are human with emotions and feelings too.
Therefore, a strong sportsman is not always strong emotionally and deserves to be respected in that manner. Additionally, losing a loved one, particularly a parent, is one of those sensitive things people should think about before they utter anything about it. The recent incident of a fan disrespecting Ketel Marte has drawn attention, and they have shown love, too.
After making Dbacks’ Marte cry over his late mother, a fan was banned by MLB
During a game against the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field, a fan expressed some bad and hurtful words to Marte, and it hurt his feelings. The remarks were about his late mother, who passed away in 2017 in a car crash. Marte was seen crying and in tears when that comment was made, and because it was an unacceptable gesture, the 22-year-old visitor was immediately banned by the MLB.
Security came and walked him out of the stadium. One of the security staff expressed that the fan was:
“…very apologetic and remorseful after the fact, and admitted to being very inappropriate and stupid with his comments.”
MLB acts quickly, banning Heckler from all 30 venues
The MLB did not waste time and banned the fan from all 30 venues. I would have thought perhaps they would suspend the fan; however, you can see how the MLB values the mental and emotional state of their players. The league truly deserves some respect and applause. Here is a breakdown of what an MLB ban means:
- It means that you cannot attend any of their games, wherever they will be playing.
- It is an immediate action. No notice, letter, or explanation.
- It means the MLB will do anything to protect its players. Unfortunately, the fan now will miss some of the good player moments, like how Elly broke a new record by pushing the HR streak to 4 games.
MLB’s decision to ban this play said a lot. Not only to players but to fans, too. Baseball players are working hard to push their teams and contribute to the growth of the MLB. Some of them have problems back at home, and yet, they still show up. Some, like Ketel Marte, have lost their loved ones and are still grieving; therefore, showing up is a sign to also pay respect to those that they have lost, and there must be a mutual respect. Shout out to MLB for showing love and support, including the Arizona Diamondbacks. Now, it is time to push the games and work hard like the Detroit Tigers, who in the top ranks.
