Murray Garvin is out after eight and a half seasons at South Carolina State

South Carolina State announced on Monday that it would not be renewing the contract of head men’s basketball coach Murray Garvin. Coach Garvin had been at SC State since 2010 and has spent the last eight-plus seasons as head coach, going 82-168 overall.

“We appreciate the years of service Coach Garvin gave to Bulldog basketball,” AD Stacy Danley said in the release. “The dedication to his student-athletes was admirable. I wish Coach Garvin all the best in his future endeavors.”

In 2016, the Bulldogs finished 19-15 and Garvin was named MEAC Coach of the Year. However, the program has finished below .500 every year since then and lost 20+ games five times in eight full seasons under Garvin. This past year’s squad was just 1-17 (1-7) and finished next to last in the MEAC standings.
