A new “dark engine” has been unveiled to the automotive world by an iconic manufacturer. The EV evolution has the world astounded by what the different manufacturers are capable of. Tesla and their competitors have made the electric vehicle more accessible and the norm for the climate-conscious car buyer. The innovation taking place in the personal transportation sector has the world excited to see where the future car will take us. Can this new “dark engine” be the next step in the inevitable electrification of the mobility sector?

The EV has come a long way since the first Tesla that amazed the world

When Toyota released the Prius way back in 2001, the world flocked to the technology and moral superiority that the electric motor provided. The first real glimpse the world got of the EV was the Tesla Model S in 2012. After the initial success of the Roadster, Tesla refined the technology for their EVs, much to the dismay of the traditional engine manufacturers of the time.

Another fuel source that has gotten significant investments is hydrogen. Hydrogen has emerged as the next best fuel source in the alternative fuel sector. Companies such as Hyundai have committed to a hydrogen future for their cars. Whether it be the traditional hydrogen fuel cell stack or the newer hydrogen internal combustion engine, hydrogen has some promise. However, the infrastructure has been a major impediment.

The biggest car manufacturers have all committed to the EV game as well. Most major car companies like Aston Martin, Jaguar, and more have stated that they aim to be carbon-neutral within the decade. EV pioneers Rimac have even bought Bugatti and are currently developing an EV hybrid that will be the fastest thing on four wheels in the world.

What is the next step in the EV evolution taking place right now?

The next step is to continue to elevate the reputation of the electric motor by engineering the most powerful and efficient EV to date. One company has dedicated its efforts to doing just that. Their new engine has the potential to change the EV sector entirely and leave the likes of Tesla and BYD behind. It’s not like Musk can afford many more setbacks at the moment. So, who are they and what have they created?

The company in question is the iconic Swedish carmaker Koenigsegg. They first came to the public’s attention with the CC8S. It challenged the dominance of the established supercar manufacturers by offering something very different and interesting. They have now unveiled their new “dark engine,” which is an electric motor with six-phase technology that outperforms the traditional three-phase tech in most EVs.

While the details are still minimal, what we do know is that the engine will have 800 HP or 588 kW and be capable of 8,500 revs per minute. The speeds that the new “dark engine” will be capable of are unlike any other EV currently available. What makes this even more unbelievable is that the engine will feature in their new family-focused, four-seater car, the Gemera.

Can the “dark engine” from Sweden prove to be the end for Tesla?

The challengers to Tesla’s dominance in the automotive sector are growing day by day. This new “dark engine” from Koenigsegg is a prime example of what the human race is capable of when we put our minds to the technology, as opposed to the financial benefits of presenting the world with an alternative power source. Koenigsegg has a reputation for doing things differently; they have their enigmatic CEO, Christian von Koenigsegg, to thank for that. Can this “dark engine” be the end of Tesla and redefine what an EV is capable of?
