- Hometown: Norwich, Connecticut
- Alma Mater: Fairfield University (BA, 1963)
- Played four years at Fairfield under head coach George Bisacca
- Started his coaching career in 1963, spending nine years as the head coach at St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale, CT
- Won three New England Prep School Championships (1969, 1970, 1971) and went 155-48 overall during his tenure
- Made the move to college in 1972, working as an assistant to Dave Gavitt at Providence for five seasons
- Became the head coach at Canisius in 1977, starting off a nearly 30-year Division I head coaching run
- Won 130 games and went to one NIT, by way of a ECAC North (now America East) title
- Moved onto Fordham in 1987, coaching the Rams for 12 seasons and winning 161 games
- Led the program to back-to-back Patriot League regular season and Tournament titles in 1991 and 1992
- Went to the 1992 NCAA Tournament and three NITs (1988, 1990, 1991)
- Left for Stony Brook in 1999 as the program was first transitioning into Division I play
- Went 41-74 in six years at SBU, including their first four seasons in the America East, but finished above .500 just once
- Retired in 2005 season with a total of 374 career victories and five postseason appearances (one NCAA, four NIT)
- For over 30 years throughout his career, he co-owned and directed the Connecticut Basketball School summer camp with Bill Detrick
- Along with his wife, Patricia, has three children
