Sooner or later, fossil fuels will be replaced, and oh! That is a good thing. The environment has suffered because of these unclean toxins. Therefore, renewable energies or resources such as sunlight are taking charge. When we see the word ‘motorcycle, we see a small mobile vehicle type moving so fast and bringing freedom. That is the word: freedom. Motorcycles have been associated with that word, but have we freed our environment from gases and CO₂ emissions? Well, that is what this new motorcycle is all about. There is no use of hydrogen, just sunlight, to be mobile and sustainable.
Zero emissions – just a fast and free ride that does justice to the environment
Now, imagine a motorcycle that speaks nothing but sustainability. Not only that, it does not need fuel at all. Meaning, there is no need to dig, extract, search, plug in, import or export; just basic sunlight, a natural substance that can still give you the same feeling when riding a motorcycle. It might seem unrealistic, but I will explain further how this has come to be. While countries like Japan are producing hydrogen motorcycles, this one is based on sunlight.
Perhaps you are thinking, “There is no way. This is fictional!” However, it is a real and true invention that will just change everything you knew or perceived about motorbikes and fuel resources. Just recently, something historic happened. It broke the automotive industry, and while the motorbike industry has taken this initiative, who knows? Perhaps bigger vehicles and companies can try it out and save the environment, too.
The world’s first motorbike ride powered solely by sunlight
A sustainable fuel that could potentially replace fossil fuels has been tested by Aldo Steinfeld, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. The sunlight, solar energy, converts water and carbon dioxide into carbon-neutral fuel. Meaning, there is no need for any solar panel attachments connected to the engine and battery to make the motorcycle mobile?
Here is the catch: Produced in Germany, they ensure to place a dozen mirrors that reflect the sun back into the motorcycle as a receiver to make the bike mobile. Water and biomass, primarily agricultural waste, are fed into a reactor in the tower, which uses sunlight to produce the synthetic gas of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. All these are natural resources being utilized for power.
This sunlight-solar motorcycle invention is different, and this is why
- The motorcycle is purely clean sunlight – the natural sun from the sky, nothing more, nothing else.
- Carbon Dioxide is captured and turned into clean energy.
- There is no harm caused by this process because it only produces clean emissions.
Speaking to National Geographic, Synhelion co-founder and co-CEO Philipp Furler said,
“The idea to produce renewable fuels, such as solar jet fuel, diesel, and gasoline, which can directly replace fossil fuels and are fully compatible with conventional internal combustion engines, aircraft engines, and existing global fuel infrastructure.”
This ride matters to the future of mobility because we are certain that every person who owns it is, by any means, knowingly or unknowingly, harming the environment by causing pollution. Additionally, we are certain that it is sunlight, a natural, readily available resource that can be used for anything related to energy and fuel. While solar has been perceived to be for homes on rooftops, today we see it working on cars and motorcycles as well. There has been a wave of zero-emission motorcycle releases recently, and this shows how companies respect the need to reduce any form of fossil fuel and replace it too.
