Rodney Terry officially hired as head coach at Texas

After going 22-8 and leading the Longhorns to the Elite Eight, interim head coach Rodney Terry is getting the Texas job officially. Terry took over for a suspended Chris Beard in December, successfully navigating a difficult off-the-court situation and keeping the team focused and moving in the right direction.

Terry had previously served as the head coach at both Fresno State and UTEP. The Texas-native left the latter in 2021 to be the associate head coach under Beard at UT. He’s a proven program-builder and winner that aced the “job interview” over the last four months in Austin.

The Longhorns nearly reached their first Final Four since 2003, falling to Miami (FL) on Sunday in the Elite Eight. Terry’s squad did break a 15-year Sweet Sixteen appearance drought this year and also won the program’s second-ever Big 12 Tournament title.
