Pat Chambers hired at Florida Gulf Coast

Former Boston University and Penn State head coach Pat Chambers was introduced as the next head men’s basketball coach at Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday. Chambers is 190-178 overall in eleven seasons as a head coach and spent this past season on staff at La Salle.

While he led the Nittany Lions to a NIT Championship in 2018, his tenure in State College ended in controversy as he resigned amidst an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct. Specifically, a former PSU player accused Chambers of being racially insensitive, including a “noose” metaphor that Chambers later admitted to using.

FGCU’s season is still going, as the program accepted an invitation to The Basketball Classic (f/k/a the CIT). The team is still being led by Michael Fly, who was released from his contract earlier this month.

More on this when there is an official release from the school.
