- Alma Mater: University of Arkansas (BA, 1961)
- Played at Arkansas under head coach Glen Rose, earning All-Southwest Conference honors
- Started his coaching career by spending six seasons as an assistant under Eddie Sutton at alma mater Arkansas
- First head coaching job came in 1980 when Foster was hired at Lamar in Beaumont, TX
- Led Cardinals to postseason in each of his six years (two NCAA, four NIT), winning three Southland titles and two Southland Tournaments
- Also served as athletic director at Lamar from 1983 to 1985
- Left for Houston in 1986, leading the Cougars to 142 victories over the next seven seasons
- Reached the postseason six times (three NCAA, three NIT) and twice won 25 games in a season; named Southwest COY in 1992
- Final head coaching position role was a six-year stint at Nevada, winning the Big West title in 1997 and earning a trip to the NIT
- Inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor
