- Born May 15, 1975
- Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio
- Alma Mater: Xavier University (BS, 1998)
- After one year playing for Joby Wright at Wyoming, transferred back home to Cincinnati to play for Skip Prosser at Xavier
- Following graduation, became an assistant coach at Elder HS in Cincinnati
- Joined Prosser‘s staff at Wake Forest in 2001 as Director of Basketball Operations and was promoted to assistant coach in 2004
- Kelsey stayed on the Wake staff under new head coach Dino Gaudio following Prosser‘s tragic passing in 2007
- Returned to his alma mater Xavier in 2009 as associate head coach under Chris Mack
- Hired as the Winthrop head coach in 2012, winning the Big South regular season title in both 2016 and 2017 and making a trip to the 2017 NCAA Tournament via the Big South Tournament auto-bid
- Accepted the head coach position at UMass on March 22, 2017, but changed his mind the following day and ultimately returning to Winthrop
- Won Big South titles in 2020 and 2021, then added Big South Tournament crowns each year to to earn NCAA berths
- In March 2021, Kelsey was announced as the next head coach at College of Charleston
- In his second season at the helm (2022-23), Kelsey led the Cougars to a share of the CAA regular season title and then won the CAA Tournament; entered the NCAA Tournament with 31 wins
- Won the CAA title outright in 2024 for the first time in program history and was named CAA COY
- Left CofC in March 2024 to become the new head coach of the Louisville Cardinals in the ACC
