  • Lived in his native Jamaica until age 12, when his family moved to Boston, MA; played at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School
  • Decided to attend Georgetown over North Carolina, helping boost the relevance of the new Big East Conference in the early ’80s
  • Played four years at Georgetown under head coach John Thompson, playing in four NCAA Tournaments, finishing runner-up to UNC in 1982 and to Villanova in 1985; Ewing was named a First-Team AP All-American three straight seasons (1983-85)
  • Drafted first overall in the 1985 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, playing fifteen seasons with the team; also spent one season each with the Seattle SuperSonics and Orlando Magic before retiring in 2002 and beginning to coaching career
    • Named Rookie of the Year in 1986, was an 11x All-Star, and named to the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team
    • Had his number #33 retired by the New York Knicks
    • Played for head coaches Hubie Brown, Bob Hill, Rick Pitino, Stu Jackson, John MacLeod, Pat Riley, Don Nelson, Jeff Van Gundy, Nate McMillan and Doc Rivers
    • Won two Olympic gold medals, one in 1984 as a college star (coached by Bob Knight) and another in 1992 with the famed “Dream Team” (coached by Chuck Daly)
    • Inducted twice into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, first as individual in 2008 and then again as a member of the Olympic “Dream Team” in 2010
    • Also inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012
  • Spent fifteen seasons as an assistant coach in the NBA, mostly with the Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets, including four seasons as Charlotte’s associate head coach
    • Has worked for the following coaches through his career: Doug Collins, Jeff Van Gundy, Stan Van Gundy, Jacque Vaughn and Steve Clifford
  • Hired in April 2017 to return to his alma mater and become head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas
    • Led the Hoyas to the NIT in his second season after winning 19 games
    • In 2021, Ewing and the Hoyas made an unlikely run to the Big Dance by winning the Big East Tournament as the 8-seed
    • Over the next two seasons, the Hoyas were just 13-50 and in 2021-22 they went 0-19 in Big East play
    • Ewing and Georgetown parted ways in March 2023; he left with an overall record of 75-109 in six seasons
  • Has two daughters and one son, Patrick Jr, who played at Georgetown and is currently a collegiate coach
