  • Alma Mater: St. John Fisher College (BA, 1985)
  • Grew up mostly in Queens, NY, attending Westbury HS and then playing at and graduating from St. John Fisher College (NY)
  • Started his coaching career at C.W. Post, spending one season as a full-time assistant
  • As an assistant coach, Hewitt worked under George Raveling at USC, Nick Macarchuk at Fordham and Steve Lappas at Villanova
  • Hired as the head coach at Siena in 1997, winning 66 games and earning two NCAA Tournament berths in three seasons
  • Left Siena for Georgia Tech in 2000, coaching the Yellow Jackets for the next eleven seasons
    • Won 190 games and went to five NCAA Tournaments, including a Runner-Up finish in 2004
    • Tenure at Tech was inconsistent, as the team enjoyed several high points but failed to finish higher than a tie for 3rd in the ACC and did not make it past the first weekend of any other NCAA Tournament
    • Hewitt was fired in March 2011 after the Yellow Jackets finished 13-18 (5-11 ACC)
  • A month later, Hewitt was hired as the head coach at George Mason
    • Finished as 2013 CBI Runner-Up but went 20-42 in the next two seasons after the program moved to the Atlantic-10
    • Hewitt was fired in March 2015 after four years at Mason and a 66-67 overall record there
  • Has worked in broadcasting since 2015, as well as spending time as a scout for the Los Angeles Clippers (NBA)
  • Was the head coach of the U19 Team USA squad at the 2011 FIBA World Championship and was an assistant with the U18 Team USA squad in 2006 and 2010
  • In 2021, Hewitt became the head coach of Clippers’ NBA G League affiliate, the Ontario Clippers
