  • The Bay Area-native played at Oregon State for Hall of Fame head coach Slats Gill
    • After college, Valenti served in the US Navy during World War II
  • Returned to Corvallis after the War to become an assistant coach for Gill and the Beavers
    • Spent a total of 18 seasons on Gill’s staff and was part of six NCAA Tournaments (and two Final Fours)
    • Served as interim head coach for 12 games during the 1959-60 season, going 9-3
  • Took over for Gill in 1964, spending the next six seasons as the Beavers’ head coach
    • Went 91-82 overall (in 6+ years), highlighted by his 1965-66 team that went 21-7
  • Stepped away in 1970 after a total of 28 years with the basketball program as a player and coach
    • Later coached tennis at OSU and served as an associate athletic director
  • Inducted into the Oregon State Athletic HOF (1990), State of Oregon Sports HOF (1982) and Pac-12 Hall of Honor (2009)
