- Played at Iona Catholic Secondary School in Toronto before spending one year playing at York University (1998-99)
- Was the head coach at Don Bosco Catholic HS (Toronto) from 1999-2003, while still attending York as an undergrad
- First collegiate job was as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State under head coach Mike McConathy
- Spent two years at Iowa on Steve Alford‘s staff as Director of Basketball Operations
- Was on Marvin Menzies‘ staff at NMSU for nine seasons – four as an assistant and five as associate head coach
- Promoted to head coach in April 2016; led the Aggies to a WAC Tournament title and NCAA berth in his first season
- Hired in April 2017 to become the head coach at in-state rival New Mexico
- Went 58-63 in four years with the Lobos; in February 2021, New Mexico and Weir agreed to part ways at the end of the season
- In July 2021, Weir was hired to be the Director of Athletics at Division II Eastern New Mexico University
- Along with his wife, Alma, has one son
