- Alma Mater: Boston University (BA, 1966)
- Played basketball at Iona Prep Academy (NY) then graduated from Boston University
- Started out teaching and coaching boys’ basketball at Dartmouth HS in Massachusetts
- First collegiate coaching job was as an assistant under Mike Krzyzewski at Army West Point (NY)
- Got the job after working a basketball camp led by Indiana (and former Army) coach Bob Knight
- When Krzyzewski left for Duke in 1980, Gaudet was elevated to head coach of the Black Knights
- Went just 12-41 in two seasons before leaving in 1982 to join the coaching staff at Duke
- Stayed on Krzyzewski’s staff for thirteen seasons, during which the Blue Devils went to ten NCAA Tournaments
- Gaudet was a part of seven Final Fours, including the Devils’ back-to-back NCAA titles in 1991 and 1992
- In 1995, his last year at Duke, Gaudet served as interim head coach for 19 games while Krzyzewski underwent back surgery
- The Blue Devils went 4-15 under Gaudet (after a 9-3 start under K) and missed the NCAA Tournament
- Was part of a class-action lawsuit against the NCAA that ultimately awarded nearly $67 million to over 1,900 coaches that had their salaries limited by rules deemed unfair in the court (decision came in 1995)
- Gaudet was out of coaching for several years before becoming an assistant under Jan van Breda Kolff at Vanderbilt
- Later coaching roles include stints as an assistant with the Vanderbilt women’s program, as well as several years as both an assistant and video coordinator with the Ohio State women’s program
