Portland State’s Tyler Geving will not return next year
Portland State announced on Wednesday that head basketball coach Tyler Geving will not return next season. Geving has been the Vikings’ coach since 2009, going 112-133 (62-80) during his tenure.
The Vikings have been to the NCAA Tournament just twice in program history – 2008 & 2009. Geving was an assistant during each of those seasons under previous head coach Ken Bone, taking over when Bone took the Washington State job.
However, Geving was not able to return the program to the top of the Big Sky. A 3rd place finish in 2012 and a CIT appearance in 2014 were the highlights of his tenure, while the lowlights included a 10th place 8-20 (5-15) finish in 2013.
According to director of athletics Valerie Cleary, the search for Geving’s replacement will begin immediately.
