Formed in 1920, the APFA, or American Professional Football Association, was renamed as the NFL or National Football League in 1922 for that playing season. The NFL is considered one of the major professional sports leagues in both Canada and the United States. With the NFL being the highest professional level of American football in the world, it remains extremely difficult to reach this level. The NFL comprises 32 teams. Legendary football player David Andrews announced his retirement from the professional sporting scene during a press conference on 2 June 2025. Andrews played as a Center and also captained his team, the New England Patriots. This is also the same team for which he played during his entire career. During the 2015 NFL draft, he went in as undrafted. Andrews signed up with the Patriots as a free agent in May 2015.
David Andrews showed remarkable promise during the Patriots’ training game and had good gameplay in the preseason. 2016 saw Andrews compete for the position of starting center, which he ultimately won. He took up the captaincy on 5 September 2017. During March 2021, this player re-signed a four-year deal with the Patriots and remained as the starting center during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
A sad farewell to a career well played
David Andrews spent his whole NFL career in New England. He played in 124 regular-season games (121 starts) as well as 12 playoff games (10 starts). His dedication and commitment to the game have reverberated onto the field and united his team.
