- Alma Mater: University of Nebraska at Kearney (BA, 1981)
- Spent six seasons as an assistant at Creighton under head coach Tony Barone, during which time the Bluejays won two Missouri Valley titles and went to the postseason three times (two NCAA and one NIT)
- Took over for Barone in 1991, becoming the league’s youngest head coach at just 31 years old
- Could not maintain Barone’s success, going just 24-59 over three seasons and finishing his tenure on a 30-game road losing streak
- Despite inheriting a team that had won the MVC the previous season, Johnson went 9-19 in his first year at the helm
- Resigned in 1994 after going 7-22 in his third season, the most losses in the school’s history
