Southeast Missouri State head coach Rick Ray fired after five seasons
Rick Ray has been fired as head coach at Southeast Missouri State, a position he has held since 2015. During his five-year tenure, Ray went just 51-104 and never reached the postseason.
Ray came to SEMO after three seasons as head coach at Mississippi State. The Compton-native was a longtime Division I assistant prior to that.
So what’s next for Southwest Missouri State? A couple names that make sense include former Missouri State head coach Paul Lusk (currently at Creighton), former Vanderbilt/Valparaiso head coach Bryce Drew and former Southern Illinois head coach Chris Lowery (currently at Kansas State).
Some local candidates without head coaching experience include Wichita State assistant Isaac Brown, Kansas assistant Jerrance Howard and Missouri‘s Cornell Mann.
Another interesting choice could be Kim Anderson, who has had a ton of success at the D-II level and while that didn’t translate to his tenure at Mizzou, maybe a mid-major gig would be a better fit for him.
