  • Was an assistant to Jim Larrañaga at Bowling Green for a year before spending eight years with Dave Odom‘s at Wake Forest
  • Assisted Jeff Jones for one season at alma mater Virginia and Rick Barnes for one season at Texas
  • Hired in 1999 to be the head coach at Virginia Tech, leading the Hokies for four seasons
    • Went 45-70 overall during a tenure that saw the program shift from the Atlantic-10 to the Big East
