Rob Lanier announced as the new head coach at Rice
Rob Lanier will continue coaching in the AAC and in the state of Texas, after all, as he was announced on Sunday night as the new head coach of the Rice Owls. Lanier spent the last two seasons at SMU, where he led the Mustangs to a 10-win improvement from year one to year two before being let go ahead of the program’s move to the ACC.
In addition to his stint at SMU, where he went 30-35 overall, Lanier has also been the head coach at Georgia State (2019-22) and Siena (2001-05), and served as an assistant at Tennessee, Texas (twice), Florida, Virginia, Rutgers, Niagara and alma mater St. Bonaventure.
Lanier will be formally introduced in a press conference on Tuesday.
