UAB fires head basketball coach Robert Ehsan after four seasons

Despite finishing above .500 in each of his four seasons at the helm, Robert Ehsan was fired on Friday as head coach at UAB. Hired in 2016 after spending the previous four seasons as a Blazer assistant, Ehsan is just one year removed from back-to-back 20-win seasons.

While the on-court results make this move seem questionable, there’s no telling what else went into the decision. One factor could theoretically be the availability of UAB alum and former Ole Miss and Cincinnati head coach Andy Kennedy. Out of coaching this past season, Kennedy has postseason experience with both programs and spent six seasons as an assistant at UAB under Gene and Murry Bartow.

More on this story as it develops.
