  • Alma Mater: Murray State University (BA, 1962)
  • The Indiana-native played at Murray State for longtime Racers’ head coach Cal Luther
  • First coaching role was as an assistant under Bill Gardiner at then-Division I Loyola University in New Orleans, LA
    • Took over as head coach of the Wolfpack a year later, going 22-25 in two seasons at the helm
  • Hired in 1968 to be the first head coach at then-Division II New Orleans, starting competition the following year
    • Was 146-65 in eight seasons, the last two (36-18) were after the program moved up to Division I
    • Went to four NCAA D-II Tournaments, going to the Final Four in both 1974 and 1975 (Runner-Up in the latter)
    • Also served as UNO’s athletic director, helping the program to make the move to Division I
  • Left UNO for the Mississippi State job in 1977, going 18-9 and winning AP SEC COY honors for the ensuing season
  • Returned to alma mater Murray State in 1978 to be the head coach of the Racers, serving in that capacity for seven years
    • Compiled a 119-78 record during his tenure, winning three OVC titles and going to the NIT in each of those seasons
  • Final collegiate coaching role was a four-year stint at Indiana State in his hometown of Terre Haute, IN
    • Went just 31-82 overall, finishing below .500 each season and winning less than 10 games in three of them
  • Spent the 1991 season coaching the Nashville Stars of the WBL, going 23-28 (the team’s only season in existence)
  • Was the head coach at Calloway County HS in Murray, KS for seven seasons (1992-99)
  • After around a decade away, Greene returned to be the head coach of the ABA’s Kentucky Retros for the 2007-08 season
  • Last coaching role was a three-year stint at Murray HS (KY), retiring in 2011 after over 40 years of coaching basketball
