  • Alma Mater: Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (BA, 1964)
  • Started his playing career at Pittsburgh, spending one season on Robert Timmons‘ team before transferring to D-II Slippery Rock
  • Spent 15 years as head coach at Bedford HS in Bedford, PA, with an overall record of 276-110 and 11 league titles
  • Was an assistant coach under Bob Knight at Indiana for five seasons
  • Became the head coach at Division II DePauw, going to three NCAA Tournaments and winning 99 games in five years
  • Moved on to the University of Indianapolis in 1992, winning 89 games in his first five-year stint there
  • Spent ten seasons as the head coach at Division I Indiana State, going 134-164 overall
  • Returned to UIndy for one season (14-13) before going back to the HS ranks, coaching Indianapolis Roncalli HS for two years
  • Waltman passed away in 2014 in Indianapolis; he was survived by his wife, Carole, one son and one daughter
