When two boxers come together for a fight, fans are there to witness the great rise and fall of two powerful athletes. Examples such as Ryan Garcia and Rolando Romero have made the crowd buzz when they went into battle. Times Square’s atmosphere felt different; the energy levels were high, and it was a different type of boxing match with cameras flashing, ready to see their star shine. It was a match that many were waiting for, and as Ryan Garcia walked from the aisle into the ring, it was like a movie star no one had ever seen being revealed for the first time in person.

It is not Ryan Garcia’s reputation for falling and losing

Having lost only twice since his career began in 2016 at the age of 17, Garcia is not labelled a “loser”. Therefore, this has set a standard for him, and being one of the youngest players, his career has taken centre stage very quickly. While boxing requires a lot of fitness and power, breaking through right now is a good move for a young player like Ryan Garcia.

Unfortunately, while he is said to be a great boxer and to have only lost twice recently, the tables turned as he lost to Rolando Romero in Times Square, New York. He was punched in the face and knocked down during the second round, and judges had their final decision, and he lost, scoring the bout 118-109 and 115-112 (twice) in Romero’s favour.

The pressure was too much: In a shocking fight in Times Square, Ryan Garcia lost to Rolando Romero

We are talking about Ryan Garcia, a 26-year-old high-valued boxer, and he lost on May 2nd against Romero “Rolly”, and fans were surprised and disappointed because they did not see that coming. Garcia had the boldness in him that he would just perform a few punches and knock Rolly out, but Rolly had other ideas; he was recharged and delivered more powerful blows.

However, the loss of Ryan Garcia is not really a shock because it was his first match after a year due to a positive drug test, which turned out to be positive, and he got suspended. One year of not being exposed to boxing or playing and rematching might have caused him to lose some momentum, although he might have been exercising and preparing for his comeback. It was shocking and still expected.

He has lost to Rolly, who’s Ryan Garcia facing next?

A legendary retired boxer and promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, believes that Ryan Garcia should get a rematch with Rolando Romero, and he thinks it is the right direction to take, rather than fighting Devin Haney. Devin Haney is not a suitable candidate because his boxing skills are weak, and he is a runner; therefore, the match will not stimulate the energy that they want. This is what Oscar De La Hoya said:

“No, that’s not the direction we want to go [Haney rematch], zero whatsoever. I think, go get revenge, and you know in boxing, you’re as good as your last fight, so might as well go.”

If they succeed, a rematch with Rolly would mean there will be a pending match with Devin Haney. Right now, Ryan Garcia has got a lot to think about, consider, and decide. He was suspended for testing positive on a drug test. Now, he is looking at a rematch and possibly more matches that could test his ability, career and endurance as a boxer, and because of his age, there is a high expectation that he is capable of doing more because he is still young, energetic, skilled, fast and flexible enough to grow and expand mentally and physically. Let us see how it goes.
