Scott Frost returning Orlando for a second stint as UCF head coach

Former UCF head coach Scott Frost is headed back to Orlando to take over the Knights’ program for the second time. Frost went 19-7 in two years at UCF, including a 13-0 record in 2017, before taking over at alma mater Nebraska.

“Today marks an exciting reunion for UCF Football as we welcome back Scott Frost, a coach who ignites the spirit and passion of Knight Nation,” AD Terry Mohajir said. “Scott’s love for his players along with his leadership, enthusiasm and vision were pivotal in making the decision to bring him back to UCF. Throughout this national search, his passion for UCF was clear. I believe no one wanted to lead our program more than Scott.”

The 2017 Knights’ team won the AAC Championship and the Peach Bowl, finishing as #6 in the AP Poll with their perfect 13-0 record. The season punctuated a remarkable turnaround for a program that had gone 0-12 just two years earlier before Frost was hired. Frost parlayed that success into the job at Nebraska, where he played from 1995-97 and was a two-time national champion.

“I’m deeply honored to return to UCF, a school that has always held a special place in my heart,” Frost said. “The foundation we built here has only grown stronger, and I am thrilled to continue shaping this program’s legacy. As we prepare for year three in the Big 12 Conference, I look forward to working alongside our dedicated student-athletes, talented staff, and passionate fans to reach new heights together.”

Former UCF head coach Gus Malzahn stepped down earlier this month to become the offensive coordinator at Florida State. The Knights went 4-8 this season, missing a bowl berth for the first time since going 0-12 in 2015.
