- Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska
- Alma Mater: Oklahoma State University (BA, 1995)
- Son of Hall of Fame head coach Eddie Sutton and played two years at Oklahoma State for his father
- Older brother is former Oklahoma State head coach Sean Sutton, later his assistant at ORU
- Starting coaching in 1995 by joining Bill Self‘s staff at Oral Roberts; Self was an assistant to Eddie Sutton at OSU for some of Scott’s playing days
- After two years under Self, Sutton remained on the ORU staff for two additional seasons as an assistant to Barry Hinson
- Promoted to head coach in 1999 when Hinson left for Missouri State, leading the program for 18 seasons
- Won four straight Summit League titles (2005-08) and three straight Summit League Tournament titles (2006-08)
- Took the Golden Eagles to eight postseason appearances (3 NCAA, 2 NIT, 2 CIT, 1 CBI)
- Fired in April 2017 after going 22-39 over the previous two seasons, finishing at the bottom of the Summit standings
- Left ORU as the winningest head coach in program history, compiling a 328-247 record overall
- Hired in October 2017 to join Mike Boynton‘s staff at Oklahoma State; has served as an assistant coach and as director of basketball administration
