- Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana
- Alma Mater: University of Kentucky (BA, 1992)
- Played at Kentucky for four seasons, the first under Eddie Sutton and the final three under Rick Pitino
- After graduation, Woods ran a basketball camp for several years before becoming a coach
- Spent two years as an assistant at High Point under head coach Bart Lundy, followed by one year at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi under Ronnie Arrow and then two years under Neil Dougherty at TCU
- Became the head coach at Mississippi Valley State in 2008, winning both the SWAC regular season and Tournament titles in 2012, his fourth and final year there
- Spent four full seasons as Morehead State head coach, winning 20+ games and going to the CBI twice (2014 and 2016)
- Nine games into the 2016-17 season, Woods was suspended as a result of an investigation into player mistreatment
- Later charged with battery for allegedly assaulting two players after a game at Evansville; resigned just days later
- Nine games into the 2016-17 season, Woods was suspended as a result of an investigation into player mistreatment
- Was an assistant under Corey Williams at Stetson for one season
- Hired in April 2018 to be the new head coach of the Southern Jaguars out of the SWAC
