  • Alma Mater: Ottawa University (BA)
  • Grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and moved out West to Arizona at the age of 23
  • Early coaching roles include a stints as an assistant at Gilbert HS (AZ) and Mesa HS (AZ)
  • First head coaching role was a one-year (2005-06) stint at Westwood HS, also in Mesa, AZ
  • Returned to Mesa HS in 2006 and spent twelve years as head coach there, going 237-103 during that tenure
    • Won seven regional championships and claimed an Arizona state title in 2016
  • Hired in April 2018 to be an assistant on Jack Murphy‘s staff at Northern Arizona
  • In March 2020, NAU removed the interim tag and hired Burcar as the permanent head coach
    • In 2023, despite finishing 9th in the league, the Lumberjacks nearly made the Big Dance after making a run to the Big Sky Tournament final
  • Along with his wife, Julie, has four children
