- Born November 3, 1950
- Died July 26, 2007
- Hometown: Carnegie, Pennsylvania
- Alma Mater: US Merchant Marine Academy (BS, 1972) / West Virginia University (M.Ed, 1980)
- Raised in Carnegie, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh, where he played both basketball and football at Carnegie HS
- Played three seasons of basketball and rugby union at the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY
- First got into coaching in 1977, going 38-9 in two seasons at Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling, WV
- Spent six seasons as head coach (and as a history teacher) at Wheeling Central Catholic HS (WV), winning a state championship in 1982; he also earned his masters in secondary education during this time from WVU
- Joined the Xavier coaching staff in 1985 as an assistant to Pete Gillen, a position he would hold for eight seasons before becoming the head coach at Loyola (MD) in 1993
- After one season at Loyola, Prosser returned to Xavier in 1994 where he would coach the Musketeers for seven seasons
- During that time, Prosser won 148 games, went to four NCAA Tournaments and two NITs
- Left Xavier for Wake Forest and the ACC in 2001, taking the Demon Deacons to the NCAA Tournament in each of his first four seasons as head coach; this included a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2004 and an ACC title in 2003
- Tragically suffered a massive heart attack jogging on campus on July 26, 2007, passing away at just 56 years of age
- Prosser’s legacy lives on in CBB in many ways, including the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award, which “honors those who not only achieve success on the basketball court but who display moral integrity off of it as well” (from official site)
- Along with his wife, Nancy, had two sons
- One son – Mark Prosser – is a collegiate head coach, currently at Winthrop and formerly at Western Carolina
