Southern Utah fires Nick Robinson after 4th straight losing season

The Southern Utah Thunderbirds‘ season ended their 2015-16 season Tuesday with a 80-85 to North Dakota in the Big Sky Tournament. The loss dropped SUU’s record to 5-24 (3-15) for the year and on Wednesday, the school announced that it had relieved head coach Nick Robinson of his duties. Robinson spent four seasons at the helm in Cedar City, compiling a 28-90 overall record and never surpassing 11 wins in any given season.

After going 11-20 in his first year, Robinson’s squad finished the 2013-14 season at just 2-27 (1-19). In the two years since, things have not gotten much better for SUU.

The Thunderbirds have just 1 NCAA Tournament bid in program history and have not seen a head basketball coach leave town with a winning record since Neil Roberts (70-63) in 1992.
