There has been much talk this June that the Social Security Administration (SSA) will be delaying payment for one specific group this month. There has been one particular group of SSA recipients who have eagerly been waiting for their June payment. However, this group of beneficiaries will need to wait until July 1 to receive another payment. This delay in payment for one specific group is not at all because this payment was forgotten about by the SSA. It just means that this specific group of beneficiaries received their payment much earlier.

One group will wait until July 1 for SSA payments

The group of SSA recipients who will not receive payments is those Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who already received their July benefit in May.  There is one simple scheduling rule that has resulted in SSI beneficiaries receiving their June payments in May. As a rule, the SSA does not issue any payments on weekends or on federal holidays.

For this reason alone, when a payment date happens to fall on the weekend, the SSA issues out funds on the previous day.  This year, June 1 fell on a Sunday. For this reason alone, the June payment got sent out much earlier by Friday, May 30.

SSI beneficiaries will be thrilled to know that this month’s SSI payment was not missed out completely but came two days ahead of the anticipated payment date. Citizens need to remember that the date when payment has been scheduled cannot affect the amount or overall benefit in any way. The schedule change won’t even affect when payments will get paid out from here on until the end of the year, unless a public holiday or a weekend falls on the scheduled payment date.

When is the next SSI payment due for received?

As per the Social Security payment schedule, since June’s benefit got paid out on May 30, the next SSI payment should only be expected on Monday, July 1, 2025. The July payment will cover the citizens’ July SSI benefits.

The schedule of SSI benefits for the rest of the year looks something like this:

  • July: Tuesday, July 1
  • August: Friday, August 1
  • September: Friday, August 29 (will be paid out early due to Labor Day)
  • October: Wednesday, October 1
  • November: Friday, October 31 (will be received earlier due to November 1, falling on a weekend)
  • December: Monday, December 1
  • January 2026: Wednesday, December 31, 2025 (early payment)

For citizens who received their SSI payments along with their Social Security payments, they should have seen their payments arriving on June 3, and that is because recipients of SSI and Social Security benefits follow a different schedule. However, other SSI beneficiaries will not be receiving any more payments until mid-June.

Who is eligible for the SSI payment?

The SSI payment is mainly for those low-income individuals aged 65 or older or those who are disabled and blind. To qualify for this benefit, citizens ought to:

  • Receive limited income (under $2,019 per month for wages received in 2025)
  • Possess limited resources (less than $2,000 for individuals or $3,000 for couples)
  • Be a U. S. citizen or a qualifying non-citizen
  • Be present in the U.S. for a full calendar month

This month, eligible SSI recipients received two payments in one month due to the SSA policy on getting two payments in one month.

What is the maximum SSI payment that recipients can receive?

SSI payments tend to be less than Social Security benefits, so much so that citizens can expect to receive:

  • $943 per month for individuals
  • $1,415 per month for couples
  • $472 per month for essential persons

The amount of SSI payments that each beneficiary will receive will be based on income, living arrangements, as well as state supplements. On May 30, SSI sent out checks amounting to an average of $1,450 to all qualifying recipients.
