Due to the way the dates fall on the calendar this month, the June Social Security Administration (SSA) payment schedule does seem rather different. The good news is that some Social Security beneficiaries will have to wait no longer for payment, as the SSA is paying one group next Wednesday.

For retirees and beneficiaries receiving payment next week, it may mean receiving over $5,000 only if certain requirements are met. While not all Social Security beneficiaries will receive the maximum Social Security benefit, some will receive it, and as it stands, it exceeds $5,000 per month.

Beneficiaries must understand what the June payment schedule will look like and how this maximum benefit can be received.

When will Social Security payments arrive in June 2025?

The way in which Social Security benefits are distributed to beneficiaries each month is based on a staggered schedule. The way the payments are staggered is based on when in the month a person’s birthday falls.

This June, the SSA follows its regular payment distribution cycle of distributing payments on each Wednesday in the month, and therefore, beneficiaries will receive payments accordingly:

  • For beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th – payment is received on Wednesday, June 11.
  • For beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th, payment is received on Wednesday, June 18.
  • For beneficiaries born between the 21st to 31st – payment is received on Wednesday, June 25.

The first June SSA payment will go out on Wednesday, June 11, to all those beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the month. For beneficiaries who are on the list to receive maximum benefit, they could receive the full amount of over $5,000.

Next Wednesday could be a joy for most. However, there is an exception to the payment distribution schedule rule where beneficiaries who started receiving benefits prior to May 1997 have already received payments on Tuesday, June 3. Another important fact to keep in mind is that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will not receive payments this June, as they already received the June payment in May, since June 1 fell on a Sunday. The next SSI payment is set to go out on Tuesday, July 1.

Social Security payments will only go out from mid-June

According to the Social Security payment schedule this month, it seemed as if all SSA payments were on hold until mid-June. Therefore, June 11 will be a rather significant day for beneficiaries who will be receiving their benefits. Despite speculations about why the delayed payments would be experienced by beneficiaries in June, the decision to distribute the first payment on June 11 was taken solely based on the payment schedule followed each month. Nevertheless, the fact that payments seem to be out during the middle of the month seemed like bad news for many SSA beneficiaries.

Who is on the list to receive over $5,000?

From the millions of beneficiaries expecting to receive their Social Security benefits of June 11, a rather small group will receive checks of more than $5,000. This group is said to receive the maximum Social Security benefit, which is a figure adjusted annually and based on the cost-of-living increases as well as the wage indexing.

Those beneficiaries who are on the list to receive this maximum Social Security payment of up to $5,000 are those who meet the following criteria:

  • Citizens have delayed retirement: These citizens have chosen to delay their retirement to 70 and, as such, have maximized their benefit amount.
  • Citizens who have worked for 35 years: Citizens who have worked for at least 35 years while continuously contributing to Social Security will receive a higher benefit amount when they start claiming.
  • Citizens who earned the maximum taxable income: Citizens who have earned the maximum taxable income (currently capped at $168,600) would receive a far higher benefit when they retire.

The idea of receiving $5,000 or more from the SSA does sound appealing to most beneficiaries, however, only a handful of retirees meet these conditions. The majority of beneficiaries receiving payment on June 11 will receive far less, with the average monthly retirement benefit being around $1,900. Beneficiaries who wish to receive this maximum payment should avoid 3 mistakes that could cost them thousands.
