Hall of Fame Stetson coach Dr. Glenn Wilkes passes away at age 91

Dr. Glenn Wilkes, a member of the Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame who served as the head coach at Stetson for 36 seasons, passed away over the weekend just shy of his 92nd birthday.

“It is a sad day for the Hatter family,” Stetson AD Jeff Altier said in a statement. “Dr. Wilkes was a larger than life personality. His success as a basketball coach was recognized by induction into many sports halls of fame. He was also an accomplished administrator, having led the Hatters to Division I and building the Edmunds Center which, at the time, was the largest on-campus gym in the state. As an educator he not only published several books, but finished his time at Stetson teaching in the classroom. I held Glenn in high esteem as did thousands of others. He will be missed.”

During his time at Stetson, he helped usher the program from NAIA to NCAA Division I and won a school-record 552 games along the way. Inducted into the College Basketball HOF in 2014, he is also a member of the Stetson Athletics HOF (1983), Atlantic Sun HOF (2015) and Mercer Athletics HOF (1971), the latter his alma mater.
