  • Hometown: Ventura, California
  • Alma Mater: University of South Alabama (BA, 1987) / US Sports Academy (MA)
  • Started coaching immediately after graduating from high school with junior varsity head coaching positions at Villanova Prep and St. Bonaventure HS in the Los Angeles area
  • Worked as a student assistant at South Alabama under head coach Mike Hanks while he earned his undergraduate degree
  • Spent one season as a graduate assistant under Jay Lowenthal at D-II Quincy (IL) then two season as an assistant under Mark Simons at then-NAIA St. Andrews (NC)
  • Returned to Quincy as an assistant under Brad Dunn in 1990, then a became the head coach the following season
    • Went 137-111 in nine seasons at the school, leading his teams to three D-II NCAA Tournaments
  • Joined Robert McCullum‘s staff at Western Michigan in 2000, working as his assistant for three seasons before taking as the Broncos’ new head coach in 2003
    • In seventeen years, Hawkins went 291-262, won or shared eight MAC titles, won two MAC Tournaments and earned six postseason bids (two NCAAs, one NIT, one CBI and two CIT)
    • Fired in March 2020 following a 13-19 campaign, his fourth season at or below .500 in the preceding five years
  • Returned to Quincy in March 2022 for a second stint as the Hawks’ head coach; went 14-15 in his first year back
