- Alma Mater: Chadron State College (BA, 1982)
- First coaching job was at his alma mater, Chadron State College in Nebraska, as an assistant for two seasons
- Spent one year as head coach at Sioux Empire JC (IA) before working as an assistant at Independence CC (KS) and Hutchinson CC (KS)
- Took over as head coach at Hutchinson in 1991, going 91-16 (.850) in three seasons and winning the National Junior College Championship in 1994 – he was honored as National Junior College Coach of the Year that same season
- Joined the D-I ranks as an assistant to Billy Tubbs at TCU for four seasons before getting the head coaching job at Wyoming in 1998
- Won 157 games in nine seasons at Wyoming, going to three NITs and one NCAA Tournament (2002); his Cowboys teams won two Mountain West regular season titles
- Spent time as an assistant to Jeff Bzdelik at Colorado and an assistant turned associate head coach to Tom Crean at Indiana
- Hired in April 2015 as the new head coach of the UIC Flames
- After winning just 5 games in his first season, reached the CBI semifinals in year two and were CIT runner-up in year three
- Fired in March 2020 after five seasons, during which time he went 76-93 overall
- Reunited with Crean in April 2020, spending the next two seasons on his staff at Georgia as an assistant coach
- Joined the coaching staff at Texas in 2022 as special assistant to head coach Chris Beard and later as an assistant under Rodney Terry
