- Born December 11, 1955
- Hometown: Reading, Pennsylvania
- Alma Mater: Seattle University (BA, 1978)
- After starring at Reading HS (PA), Jackson played for head coach Dick Harter at Oregon
- Transferred after three years and finished his career playing for Bill O’Connor at Seattle
- Started coaching at 1981 back at Oregon, spending two seasons assisting head coach Jim Haney
- Spent two seasons each on Len Stevens’ staff at Washington State and Rick Pitino‘s at Providence
- Followed Pitino to the New York Knicks in 1987, then took over as head coach in 1989
- Went 45-37 during the 1989-90 season, then started the next year 7-8 before resigning in December 1990
- Later worked for the NBA as director of basketball relations
- Returned to the college ranks in 1992 when he was hired to be the head coach at Wisconsin
- Was 32-25 in two seasons in Madison, going to the NIT in 1993 and NCAA in 1994
- Left in 1994 to become the first president and general manager of the Vancouver Grizzlies, serving in that role for five years
- Stepped in to coach the Grizzlies for part of the 1996-97 season, going 6-33
- Returned to working for the NBA in 2000, serving as chair of the Competition Committee
- Named Executive VP of Basketball Operations in 2007
- Served as a television studio analyst for NBA games on the Turner networks for five seasons (2013-18)
- Hired in August 2014 to be senior associate commissioner of the Big East Conference
- In March 2023, Jackson was hired to be the new commissioner of the West Coast Conference (WCC), based in San Mateo, CA
