Born in Lansing, Michigan, spent much of his childhood in Baltimore and attended two years of high school in Minnesota, eventually graduating from Towson Catholic HS back in Baltimore County and attending a post-graduate year at Fork Union Military Academy (VA)
Father, LeRoy Johnson, played at Indiana in the early 1960s and brother, Steve Johnson, played at California
Played four seasons at Princeton, the first three under Hall of Fame coach Pete Carril and his senior year under Bill Carmody
- Named Ivy League Player of the Year as a senior in 1997 and is the only player in Princeton history to be a three-time team captain
- Played overseas for several years, including five years at the top divisions in Italy and Spain
Started coaching as an assistant under John Thompson III at Georgetown, staying there for three seasons
Returned to his alma mater as head coach in 2007, quickly turning the program around and winning the Ivy League title in 2011
Hired in April 2011 to be the head coach of the Fairfield Stags, a position he would hold for eight seasons
- Went 116-147 overall during his tenure, reaching three CITs
- Fired in March 2019 following a 9-22 season, his third single-digit win season in six years
Joined Joe Scott‘s staff at Air Force in April 2020 as his associate head coach; stepped down in 2021 to move closer to family in Connecticut
